Dear Calvary Family,
Wow! August is here which means school is about to start and summer is about to end. Truly hard to believe. So, what’s on tap for Calvary in August of 2023?
First, we will be finishing our Next Gen Sermon Series on August 6. Our team of speakers has done an excellent job. I’ve been inspired by their messages, their communication skills, and their passion for the Lord. We truly have a great Next Gen team leading the way at Calvary. Thank you to all of our young adults and young families for choosing Calvary. We cannot live out our intergenerational ministry vision without you.
Second, we will have our traditional Choir Favorites/Bridge Summer Worship service on August 13. This year, both services will be held at the Family Life Center so that we can “sing in the round” like we did last year. These services will be very unique and special. You definitely want to worship with your Calvary family on this day! In fact, you might want to attend both worship services, like me and my lovely wife. You will be inspired if you do!
Third, August means “back to school.” We will have our annual backpack prayer event along with giving our first graders their new bibles in both services on August 20. I am super excited that we have seven first graders to celebrate this year! Additionally, there will be a very special prayer service on Thursday night, August 17, dedicated to “back to school” opportunities. I’ve seen the plans for this service and am greatly looking forward to it and the impact it will make on our students, teachers, and families. Thank you Calvary Prayer Team for serving us so faithfully!
Also, on August 20th, we will have our Downline Ministry partners on campus. Downline is an excellent discipleship ministry that we highly encourage and endorse. If interested, know that Calvary will invest in you through a financial scholarship to help with the expense.
Also, since we have finished our sermon series on Exodus, some of you have asked what’s next on the preaching front? First, there will be a short series on “Women in Ministry.” The national Southern Baptist Convention recently made some decisions at their annual convention that have brought the issue of women in ministry back to the forefront. So, exactly what does the bible say about this issue? I will begin to answer this question in a three week sermon series starting on August 20. Following that, we will begin a sermon series on the Gospel of John, an all-time favorite for many believers.
So, all in all, quite a month for the Calvary family. In my mind, August is the kick-off for a new year. So, may this next year be one where we experience the presence, power, and goodness of God in spectacular ways! I’m looking forward to the journey with each of you.
