A World Heavyweight Championship Super Bout (Exodus 7 – 8)
The early chapters of Exodus read like the billing of a world heavyweight championship boxing match.
God is the challenger, Pharaoh is the reigning world champion, and Moses is the promoter. As 21st century Christians, we know that this is a gross mismatch. However, if you were an Egyptian living in Moses’ day, you would think that Pharaoh was going to win. Why? Well, Pharaoh himself was thought to be divine, thus capable of standing up to God. Also, since the Egyptians had ruled over and subdued the Israelites for 400 plus years, it seemed obvious to them that their gods were more powerful than Israel’s God. However, things are not always as they seem. So, tune into this message from Exodus chapters 7 and 8 and see rounds 1 through 3 of this historic title fight (i.e., the first three plagues). Witness God take Pharaoh to task. Along the way, you will learn important lessons about hard hearts, evil power, false gods, and judgment.
