Joining Paul in Athens
Join us as we dive into Acts!
In this message, we join Paul in the ancient and glorious city of Athens. This city is known for its extraordinary influence on western thought and culture. It is the birthplace of democracy, the place where universities were first established, the center for philosophy and learning along with countless other contributions to art, architecture, literature, theater, athletics, etc. But, in Paul’s day, one of Athens claims to fame was its idols. The city had over 30,000 idols scattered throughout its domain. Everywhere Paul went, he found temples, monuments, shrines, inscriptions, and pagan priests. All of these were intended to foster the worship of idols by the Athenians. In this sermon, we will see Paul’s reaction to the idolatry of his day and learn what we can do about the idolatry of our day. Furthermore, he gives us a great example of how to engage an intelligent, successful, and influential audience with the truth of the Gospel.
