When the Good News Is Too Good Not to Tell
Join us as we dive into Acts!
This sermon celebrates the speech of a great Pharisee named Gamaliel. In the text, God uses Gamaliel to persuade the Sanhedrin not to kill the apostles and instead, to let them go free. Essentially, he wisely states that if this Jesus movement is from men, it will soon play out and all will come to nothing. However, if it is from God, then it cannot be stopped, and the Jewish religious leaders will find themselves fighting against God. So, instead of killing the apostles, the Sanhedrin orders them to be flogged and to no longer speak and teach in the name of Jesus. The apostles then leave the Sanhedrin rejoicing that they were counted worthy of suffering for Christ. Furthermore, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news about Jesus. Based on this text, Pastor Scott reminds the church of what is at stake concerning the Gospel – it truly is a matter of life or death. We, like the apostles, must be committed to boldly proclaiming the Gospel, no matter the cost. The eternal lives of our lost family members, friends, neighbors, and work associates , etc. are at stake.
