An Eye for an Eye, a Tooth for a Tooth (Exodus 21:22-25 and Matthew 5:38-42)
In Exodus 21:22-25, we have the bible’s first mention of the Lex Talionis or “Law of Retaliation.”
This is the law that is commonly referred to as “An Eye for an Eye, a Tooth for a Tooth.” During both biblical and modern times, many people have interpreted this law as giving them permission to get even with those who hurt them and/or to avenge wrongs. However, this is not at all what it means. This message teaches us the true meaning of the Lex Talionis and even looks at what Jesus has to say about it. So, get ready for one of Jesus’ hard but life transforming lessons. This is a message that every Christian needs to hear, understand, and obey.
