It’s August and it’s getting hot here in central Arkansas. So, as the weather turns hot, my prayer is that our hearts will get hot for God. I pray that we, Calvary Baptist Church, will catch fire from the Holy Spirit. Remember, in Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit came upon the first century believers they saw what seemed to be tongues of fire separating and coming to rest on each of them. When this happened, the empowered church radiated out into missional living for the glory of God. So Calvary, here are several discipleship opportunities that will light a fire under us:
Attend the Calvary Missions Fair
Several years ago, the Calvary Missions and Ministry Committee was tasked with starting some ministry teams to provide opportunities for Calvary members to participate in local missions. After much prayer, discussion, and planning, the committee is now ready to introduce our first Mission Ministry Teams. Please make plans to join us for our Missions Fair on August 15th at 5:30 in the FLC. The evening will include the introduction of three new local mission teams serving the Little Rock Pregnancy Resource Center, Little Rock’s Phoenix House, and mentoring at risk youth through the LRSD and Immerse Arkansas. Each team will share about their ministry and present ways that Calvary members can get involved. Also, we will have a dedicatory prayer over each mission team. It is important that we all take ownership of these new ministries. So, please save the date and plan to attend. We all need to know what each ministry is about and we all need to participate in one or more of the following ways:
1) Serve on one of the Mission Teams.
2) Resource and support the Mission Teams.
3) Stay informed and pray for the Mission Teams.
Join a D-group
What is a D-Group? It is a small group dedicated to personal spiritual growth as a disciple of Jesus while being trained to mentor other disciples. In other words, it is a small group dedicated to being a disciple who makes disciples. This sounds a lot like what Jesus told us to do (see Matthew 28:19-20). Last year, we had 53 people involved in D-Groups and we are hoping for more this year. Please prayerfully consider joining our discipleship movement at Calvary by contacting the church office at
Participate in Calvary's Family Discipleship Conference
This fall, Calvary will host its first “Family Discipleship Conference.” This will be an intergenerational conference focused on helping us help each other make disciples within our natural families and within our church family. This is for all adults – from young adults to senior adults; from singles, to parents, to grandparents. The conference will take place on Saturday, October 30, in the morning and afternoon. Also, it will include Sunday morning’s worship time on October 31 followed by lunch on the grounds and a Fall Family Festival for our kids - both young and old. You won’t want to miss this event, so please reserve the date.
