Sharing one’s faith can be a difficult challenge in today’s world and culture. In fact, many believers have admitted that they have actually never shared their faith with a nonbeliever.

Sharing one’s faith can be a difficult challenge in today’s world and culture. In fact, many believers have admitted that they have actually never shared their faith with a nonbeliever.
Why is this?
There are many reasons. First, our culture has convinced us that religion is too private and diverse, thus we are not supposed to engage in religious conversations unless directly asked. Second, sharing one’s faith can be super awkward and many believers lack confidence that they can effectively present the bible’s message of salvation. Third, many are intimidated by the prospect of being asked a biblical question that they cannot answer. Fourth, many believers today lack meaningful relationships with unbelievers. Fifth, some believers do not believe it is their personal responsibility to share their faith.
So, what should we do?
It seems we might need to be reminded of the biblical mandate to be Christ’s witnesses (see Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:14-15; etc.). Furthermore, many of us need some simple training to develop skills and confidence. Additionally, we all need to develop prayerful intentionality with people that God has brought into our lives.
Ultimately, it is all about being good neighbors in order to share the good news with our neighbors. The truth is, if you can be a good friend, then you can be a good witness for Christ. It all starts with developing a friendship that eventually will include spiritual conversations.
This fall, our adult Wednesday evening discipleship training will focus on witnessing. We will be learning how to do “friendship evangelism” which might be somewhat different than what you have experienced previously. Please prayerfully consider joining us on Wednesdays from 6 – 7:30.
