January 2025

Believe it or not, 2025 has arrived. And with its arrival, I am personally looking forward to a great year of kingdom growth for our church. This includes each of us growing in our personal discipleship and our church corporately bearing fruit for the kingdom of God.

We will start the year off with a full slate of important events. This includes our deacon ordination service on January 12th. We are blessed to be ordaining nTad Beene, who will be a great addition to our deaconate. Additionally, we will be inviting Butch House back to rejoin our deacon body after serving in another church.

On Sunday, January 19, we will have our annual State of the Church address where I’ll share an overview of what God did among us in 2024 along with some hopes, dreams, and prayers for 2025.

Then, on January 26, we will start a new sermon series on the book of Revelation. This will be the first time that I have actually preached through the book, so your prayers are much appreciated. There are two typical responses to Revelation. One is to see it as too strange and confusing, thus we avoid it. The other is to obsess over it while trying to figure out its apocalyptic riddles. I am intent on a third approach. Let’s read and study the book of Revelation carefully while paying close attention to its context. By doing this, we can celebrate its glorious themes of worship, victory, and hope which are clearly revealed. Along the way, we can address some of the more confusing issues by letting key theological scholars guide us through these more speculative issues. We may not find all the answers, but we can better understand the issues and options. All in all, I anticipate that Revelation will be a fascinating study!

Looking forward to a great year with you.
