Thank You Calvary | May 2026
Calvary Family,
I want to express my appreciation to our missions committee for organizing and leading our recent “Serve the City” mission day here in Little Rock. It was great to see more than fifty of Calvary’s members volunteering to serve together. It was also beautiful seeing the intergenerational make up of our teams.
Young children were serving alongside senior adults who were serving alongside young adults and middle aged adults. What a beautiful picture of the body of Christ being the hands and feet of Christ.
Jesus modeled service for us by saying “I have come not to be served but to serve” (Matthew 20:28). He also told us that if we want to be great in his kingdom, we have to become great servants (Matthew 23:11-12). Furthermore, he told us that when we serve “the least of these” we are actually serving him (Matthew 25:24-40). So, who are the least of these? According to the text, they are the poor, the sick, the hungry, the imprisoned, and the marginalized. Other New Testament passages include widows in that list.
So, I’m certain that our Lord was pleased by our intentional service and partnership with Immerse Arkansas helping the young adult community who have aged out of foster care. Providing a meal, picking up trash around their campus, and getting to know some of the residents was extremely meaningful. I think he was pleased by our intentionality in meeting needs and bringing spiritual encouragement to young pregnant mothers who are sometimes overwhelmed and under resourced. I’m grateful for our partnership with the Pregnancy Resource Center in Little Rock. I think our Lord is very much behind Providence Park’s vision to provide housing and relational community to the chronically homeless in our city. I’m certain that the Lord loved our team helping organize their food pantry, clean their windows, and provide flowers and seed packets for their residents. I think the Lord smiled upon us as we helped one of our own senior adult widows with some much needed tree trimming and yard work.
Also, I’m grateful for the many in our church who serve week in and week out in so many other ways. In God’s economy, service equals greatness. So thank you church, for being great for God.
Pastor Scott
