August 2024
It is hard to believe, but August is here and summer will soon give way to the fall. August is a special time at Calvary as we will have our annual worship celebrations on August 11. This year the Bridge will feature a multi-generational worship experience while the Traditional Service will feature the customary “Choir Favorites.
Additionally, on August 18, we will have “Promotion Sunday” where our children and students will promote to their next class. It is always an exciting time for our families. It is also an important time for prayer. Therefore, we will be dedicating our children, parents, and teachers to the Lord during our worship services with a special time of prayer led by our Prayer Team. The next week, August 25, we will continue the fun with the “End of Summer Bash” with a joint worship service, fish fry luncheon, and water slides and festivities for the kids.
Also, at the end of the month, we will be kicking off a new sermon series on the Holy Spirit. In 2009, Francis Chan wrote a book titled Forgotten God: Reversing Our Tragic Neglect of the Holy Spirit. I believe that Chan was addressing an important issue that is often a spiritual blind spot for many contemporary believers. Most of us understand that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, but we do not understand much about him beyond this. It is my hope that this sermon series will enlighten us on how we can better know the Holy Spirit and better abide in Christ through him and experience life through his empowerment.
So, get ready for a great month that will get us ready for another great school year, church year, and fruitful year of ministry.
Rich blessings in Christ!
Pastor Scott
