It’s October, my favorite month of the year. Why? Beautiful weather, beautiful trees, football, and the Family Discipleship Conference.
So, what exactly is the Family Discipleship Conference? This is an important annual discipleship equipping event for our church family. Last year, we were blessed to have 65 attendees at our inaugural conference. We focused on how we can better capture discipleship moments with our children and grandchildren. Additionally, we discussed how we as a church family could provide spiritual support to our parents and grandparents as they intentionally invest in the spiritual lives of their children and grandchildren. All in all, it was a wonderful day that provided new ideas, much encouragement, heartfelt prayer, and helpful resources that equipped us to be better disciple makers.
This year’s conference will focus on intergenerational discipleship ministry. In other words, how can older and more mature believers come alongside younger believers? One biblical example involves an older and more experienced Paul mentoring a younger and less experienced Timothy, whom he actually describes as his “son in the faith.” These intergenerational relationships can be transformative for both parties.
The conference will take place on Saturday morning, October 22, and begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 11:30 a.m. It will include a guest speaker, a panel discussion, table talks, and discipleship tools.
So here’s my prophetic prediction. On Saturday, October 22, we will have an absolutely beautiful fall day. As you drive to our Family Discipleship Conference, you will be treated to a colorful display of Arkansas’ fall foliage. While at the conference, at least 75 of us “Calvery-ites” will be taught well by our speaker, will be inspired by our panelists, and will be encouraged by our table mates. And, we will all get to meet some new friends. And who knows, afterwards, we might even be able to take in a good football game. And so, if my prophetic predication comes true, then it will be the perfect Saturday that you will not want to miss.
