It is hard to believe, but it is already December and Christmas is in the air. This is especially true at the Jackson household. If you do not already know it, the Christmas Queen actually lives at my house and her name is Mona.
Truth be told, Mona has already set up five Christmas trees in our home. They are all beautiful, but one of them is spectacularly beautiful. It is nine foot tall and filled with elegant ornaments and beautiful white lights with French Country gold ribbon. Additionally, the Jackson’s Christmas movie watch has begun. Our family tradition includes White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Christmas Story, and Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation. This does not include all of the Hallmark Christmas specials that we will also watch. Yes, your pastor needs to confess that he watches all of the mushy, predictable, and occasionally inspiring Hallmark Christmas movies, complete with their sappy happily ever after endings.
Well, it is not just the Jackson household that is preparing for Christmas. Christmas is certainly in the air at Calvary as well. Recently, our choir has led us in the “hanging of the green” and we are so proud of our beautifully decorated Worship Center with it is gorgeous fourteen foot Christmas tree greeting Calvary members and guests as they enter the church foyer. It is a spectacularly beautiful tree. Along with the tree and its ornaments, we have gorgeous wreaths and other Christmas symbols celebrating the biblical story of Christmas.
This month, we will prepare our hearts for worshiping our Lord’s coming to this earth as a humble man who was born in the most humble of circumstances. We will join the angels in singing “glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:14). We will celebrate the fourfold themes of Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. Furthermore, our Christmas worship will conclude with our Christmas Eve Family Worship Service. As always, we expect it to be spectacularly beautiful, because he is spectacularly beautiful. So, happy December 2019 and together may the Calvary family experience a truly merry Christmas.
